My name is Lize Briel
I am a composer and flautist based in South Africa. I am currently doing my Masters’ in Composition at Stellenbosch University under
Mr Arthur Feder and Dr Antoni Schonken.
My musical style has a unique aesthetic and could be considered experimental. I draw inspiration from unconventional sound worlds and enjoy designing intricate music for a wide variety of instrumentations.

Installation about Ocean Pollution
for string quintet, trash, and electronics
Ocean Soundscape: An Installation About Ocean Pollution is aimed at raising awareness about the crisis our oceans face with pollution. By integrating trash into a composition for string quintet and electronics, the music mirrors the pollution of our oceans. Ultimately, this work aims to illustrates that waste has the potential to become a resource, even capable of creating art.

First Violin
Caro Hill
Caro Hill is a 3rd year BMus stendent, currently specialising in performance at the Konservatorium. In her free time she loves spending time in nature with friends, family, and her pets. Something random? If she retires, she wants to be a column writer for Die Burger.
Second Violin
Dane Hayes
Dane Hayes is a 3rd year BMus student at Stellenbosch University. She plays for the Stellenbosch University Symphony Orchestra.
Viola
Mariette Schumann
Mariette Schumann recieved her Licentiate in Music Performance at Stellenbosch University for flute and violin. She is currently teaching at Eikestad Primary and Somerset College. Mariette is the organiser of Eikestad Orchestra and assistant at Bloemhof Girls High string ensemble ‘Stringendo’.
Cello
Ethan Lawson
Ethan Lawson is currently doing his MMus in cello performance. He has won many awards in competitions and has performed movements from Dvorak’s cello concerto with the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra and the University of Stellenbosch Symphony Orchestra.
Double Bass
Njabulo Nxumalo
Njabulo Nxumalo is the principal Double bassist of the Cape Town Philharmonic Youth Orchestra as well as the University of Stellenbosch Symphony Orchestra. In his spare time he loves exploring and playing in ensembles.
Electronics
Antoni Schonken
Antoni Schonken is a South African art and film composer lecturing in Composition, Orchestration, and Music Theory at Stellenbosch University while composing for Sein Media. His works for instruments, voice, stage and film have won awards both locally and internationally.
